This is one of three charcoal drawings I made for my HSC Visual Art course in 2014. I became interested at the time in materialism and consumerism and the work is an attempt to represent our contemporary attraction and obsession toward high value objects. It juxtaposes a magpie - a natural creature who by instinct collects 'shiny' materials - to a diamond ring worth ~$43mil. The magpie is a symbol of humanity and hopefully it conveys some of the absurdity in the extent of society's pursuit of material wealth.



This is a conversion of a decommissioned water tower in Belgium into a house. I find this repurposing of old into new fascinating and also the contrast between modest exterior and elaborate interior which this building shows. Inside, the designer chose to keep a lot of the heavy, industrial valves and pipes and integrated them into the new structure adding a unique feel to its rooms. The decor is minimalist, drawing attention to these stark elements that make the building work.

This is the view of the central spire at the main temple at Angkor Wat. I took this photo in Dec 2015 when I was travelling. By accident, my friends and I somehow bribed the security guard who was stopping visitors from entering the upper level until the sacred rituals had passed, so we gained limited access by ourselves to the top of the temple. It was sunrise and the sun and moon were on opposite sides of the temple; it felt like a powerful space to be in at the time.
